Hibernating and Other Summer Fun | Homeschool Diaries

Image
Sonlight is having a monthly blog linkup this year, in honor of their 25th anniversary. Find out how we decided to homeschool in the February hop and my best advice for new homeschoolers in March and in April shared a day in the life of my homeschool . Last month, I admitted complete ignorance to the whole convention scene and instead blogged about our summer reading list (so far). Now for June's prompt: Share your favorite summer reading and learning activities . Ah, the lazy days of summer... CAUTION: Three consecutive weeks of swim lessons may induce napping. or not as much, in our case. One of the many perks of homeschool is that when it is center of the sun hot (which in Texas, can stretch from June well into September) we hibernate. Now since we don't live in a cave (or under a rock) hibernating is quite pleasant and even dare I say fun in it's on way. What do we do to hibernate? Read. Lots. Which means our library card gets quite the workout (as can ...

New Year's Resolution | Six Impossible Things

Image
Looking back at all of the amazing, wonderful, impossible things that happened in the last year, I decided to go for broke when compiling my list of Disney New Y-Ears resolutions for the year. I'm going to try to do six impossible things this year, so please send pixie dust! Back to the Big Kid Rides Since my fearless princess is finally forty-four inches tall, she looks forward to conquering all of the big kid rides! She has no fear, nor no one should. Impossibility: The possibility of having to take all of our family out of the chicken exits is very real. With possibly one child who wants to go on the ride coming with us. I am planning this trip down to the ride order rather than just the usual FastPass+, Advanced Dining Reservations and then letting the rest of the trip come as it may. Instead I've got all of our rides mapped out to slowly work our way up from the Great Goofini to the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train before the scary rides a few days into the tri...

Fall-ing in Love: My Autumn Bucket List

Image
It's the most wonderful time of the year! If I had to pick one season to live in, I would be hard pressed to pick between autumn and spring. Today, fall is definitely in the lead. Since it is the start of fall, let's break out the bucket list and see what there is to do around here to celebrate cool(er) weather and a little more time to sleep in. 1.) Enjoy the change of the seasons. Sadly, I live in a part of the country where the only autumn color we experience is purchased at Hobby Lobby. So we make our own leaves to hang in the windows. My personal favorite leaf from last year? This Tinker Leaf  #DisneySide It's not quite the same, but it's still lovely! 2.) Visit the Texas Renaissance Festival Located in Todd Mission, Texas, the Texas Renaissance Festival (or RenFest) turns 55 acres into a bustling 16th century village for eight weeks in October and November. Between the hundreds of performers, crafting demonstrations and the authentic shops an...

Cruising: Frozen Style

Image
Welcome to those of you joining me from Melissa's blog, Rolling with the Magic and those of you just hopping aboard. I am the final stop on our Magical Blogorail . When a mouseketeer starts to feel the heat, there are two possible responses: Fight or Flight. While you've read about some wonderful ways to beat the heat, I'm going to take the opposite response and run. Yes, run. Hit the road, head to port and join Mickey on the high seas. While on board the Disney Wonder, we will never be more than a few steps from air conditioning. Or a fruity frozen beverage. Or a nice tropical breeze. Except during the summer when the Wonder heads to the sunny frozen shores of Alaska. Alaska? Well if you're really sick of the dog days of summer, why not embrace your #DisneySide by getting a little bit Frozen? Princess Anna and Queen Elsa decided to grace the Disney Wonder with a little bit of Frozen magic during her Alaska sailings. (See guest services on boarding f...

Homeschool Diaries | A New Adventure

Image
So after several months of research, late night conversations and soul searching our family finally decided to take the plunge into uncharted waters. No, we're not cruising to Alaska or the Panama Canal (yet) although that is still firmly on our Disney bucket list. We're joining the ranks of the Duggars; no, I'm not pregnant. Starting at the end of the 2013-2014 school year, we're going to start homeschooling both of our children! Our next great adventure! Channeling my #DisneySide, I decided to celebrate my new found peace and future with some books. After a bit of browsing, my #DisneySide Amazon Wish List is set for the foreseeable future. For a little light reading for me, I picked out The Thinking Fans Guide to Walt Disney World by Aaron Wallace. I thumbed through this a month ago in Barnes and Noble, meant to buy it and got distracted and set it down. It looks right up my alley though and I should have a book review on that once it arrives. More in the...
