Hibernating and Other Summer Fun | Homeschool Diaries

Image
Sonlight is having a monthly blog linkup this year, in honor of their 25th anniversary. Find out how we decided to homeschool in the February hop and my best advice for new homeschoolers in March and in April shared a day in the life of my homeschool . Last month, I admitted complete ignorance to the whole convention scene and instead blogged about our summer reading list (so far). Now for June's prompt: Share your favorite summer reading and learning activities . Ah, the lazy days of summer... CAUTION: Three consecutive weeks of swim lessons may induce napping. or not as much, in our case. One of the many perks of homeschool is that when it is center of the sun hot (which in Texas, can stretch from June well into September) we hibernate. Now since we don't live in a cave (or under a rock) hibernating is quite pleasant and even dare I say fun in it's on way. What do we do to hibernate? Read. Lots. Which means our library card gets quite the workout (as can ...

The Royal Treatment | A Tale of Two Ships

Image
Welcome to this month's Magical Blogorail Blue loop. Today we are sharing what you can expect from some of the club level experiences at Disney Resorts and on the Disney Cruise Line. Have you ever dreamed of cruising concierge? What about in the royal suite? Last year offered up a boatload of moms panel excitement , trip planning high spirits, beginning of  homeschool jitters and also a ridiculous amount of pixie dust magic! Toes in the wind and off on an adventure! In January, our family cruised in the Walt Disney Suite on the Disney Wonder to celebrate our tenth wedding anniversary and our daughter's fifth birthday. Then in November, we upgraded at port to the Walt Disney Suite on the Disney Fantasy. Just for fun. (TONS of pixie dust, y'all!) So what's the difference between one royal suite and another? The Disney Wonder Disney's classic ships, the Disney Magic and the Disney Wonder feature nearly identical Royal Suites. Located on deck ...

Go the Distance | Homeschool Diaries

Sonlight is having a monthly blog linkup this year, in honor of their 25th anniversary. Find out how we decided to homeschool in the February hop and my best advice for new homeschoolers in March. April's prompt: Share a day in the life of your family. What does your family’s homeschool schedule look like? What exactly does a day in the life of a homeschooler look like? A day in the life of our first year with Sonlight. That's like asking what a fruit looks like. Sure they're all loaded in fructose and produced through photosynthesis, but like a kiwi and a watermelon, each day has a very different flavor. This year I have a 6 and 8 and a half year old. We just started into our second year of homeschooling in March using Core C, Science C and Language Arts 2 and 3. Here's our plan: Christopher's Weekly Planner Each child has a binder with their math, language arts, handwriting and science worksheets inside for the entire week. The cover has a ki...

Let's Go To The Movies! | Disney's All-Star Movies Resort Review

Image
Welcome to the next stop on Magical Blogorail Orange. Today we are reviewing the value resorts at Walt Disney World. Growing up in a family of six, we needed at least two hotel rooms, so All Star Sports and Music grew to be my Disney home away from home. Now that I'm the adult, I'll be the first to admit that I'd much rather enjoy more time on my vacation at a value resort than less days at a deluxe resort. Not that I wouldn't upgrade to concierge if it's in the budget , of course! Let's Go to the Movies! On my girls trip last year and on the adventures of the three mousekateers , I grew to love the All Star Movies Resort as well! Known for their over the top imaginative décor, each set of buildings features multistory icons from either The Mighty Ducks, The Love Bug, 101 Dalmatians, Fantasia or Toy Story. Like so: Do you miss the Sorcerer's Hat at Hollywood Studios? Swing by All Star Movies! Magical? Definitely full of tons of pixie du...

Everything is Better With Mickey Ears | Favorite Food Friday

Image
Welcome Favorite Food Friday Blog Hoppers! If it can be found eaten by hundred of children walking down Main Street USA, is full of vanilla ice cream and has Mickey Ears, what is it? Everything's tastier when it's Mickey shaped! Mickey Mouse Kid's Cone- Once Scoop of Vanilla Location: Plaza Ice Cream Parlor, Main Street, USA Cost: $2.99 Although less iconic than the Mickey Bar and Dole Whip, in my kids eyes the Mickey Mouse Kid's Cone is equally magical. This smooth creamy cone cools you off while you wait for the beginning of Festival of Fantasy or Wishes, but more importantly, it is a lovely throw back served in a turn of the century parlor. Just off of the Main Hub and convenient to the new gardens, with the smell of fresh waffle cone wafting down Main Street, it's not likely you'd forget where to find this confection. The ears go first of course! Note, the ears will not so much as make it even part of the way down Main Street. I'm sure...

The ingredients of any perfect Disney vacation? Castillo de San Felipe in San Juan, Puerto Rico Take time to explore magical castles and adventure through beautiful and unexplored lands. With views like this on St. Thomas, you might not mind a hike either! Mix in a dash of retro cool style. Chandeliers, wood and marble finishings. Matching outfits. Celebrating boarding! Or...
