How to Celebrate Mother's Day at Sea

http://www.magicalblogorail.com/

Welcome to those of you joining me from Disney Donna Kay and those of you just hopping aboard. I am the Final stop on our Magical Blogorail.

My dream Mother's Day?

Any day that someone else washes the dishes. That's really all I need to be happy.

Breakfast in bed would be nice.

Hey, while we're at it, if someone cleans my kids' room, makes the beds, offers sincere service with a smile, then perhaps I could take some time getting a pedicure, laying by the pool and getting a couples massage. I'd really feel wonderful. If someone could arrange to deliver flowers to my room, It'd certainly be appreciated. It'd be nice if we could get some childcare that my children adore and get some alone time and maybe take in a live stage show. (With my musical theatre background, I'm extremely in love with live theatre.) Basically, I want the entire day to be carefree and magical. Is that too much to ask?

Oh, wait; that's every day I'm on a cruise.

I guess we want to make this even more special.

Since you are already so pampered on Disney Cruise Line, they don't add much on Mother's Day to up their game. A basic "Happy Mother's Day" sheet cake is cut outside of the main dining rooms, but other than that, it's up to you to make it special. If you missed the boat on ordering flowers to your stateroom before your sailing, you still have a lovely option to celebrate Mom.

Palo Brunch (offered on each of the four ships) screams Mother's Day to me. There is just something so refined and welcoming about sleeping in for a bit, enjoying some ocean breezes then settling in to gorgeous ocean views and tiny quiches.

The Royal Treatment
Chocolate Covered Strawberries
After a lovely meal of tiny pies, tiny tarts and tiny pastries, a chocolate covered strawberry or two or three really hits the spot. I don't get why I like tiny foods so much, I just do.

My Mother in Law's Stamp of Approval.

Palo Brunch gets five long stemmed roses for it's peace, quiet, and unpretentious tiny foods.

Happy Mother's Day Carol and Diana!
I love you!

  1. What a great way to end the Mother's Day loop this week! Palo Brunch sounds amazing. I like "tiny foods" because it seems like you can eat more of them. LOL

  2. Oh man! A Disney Cruise... this is something on my BIG Disney Bucket list! Sounds like a beautiful Mother's Day experience :) You have been on a Disney cruise? What is your favorite thing about it?

    1. Yes, yes I have! (See the Disney Cruise 101 tab)
My favorite thing? The beauty and majesty of sunrises and sunsets at sea, the exemplary service and the ease of balancing family time and us time all keep me coming back (even to the exclusion of WDW vacations, sadly.)

  3. I think this is a great post -- my wife, though, might disagree, as she is not sure she would be able to handle a cruise...thank you for writing, those are great ideas and tempting treats!

  4. First of all - amen on having someone else do the dishes!! I would love to do a Disney Cruise, the hubby absolutely refuses so I think it's time to plan a girls cruise. How many Disney Cruises have you taken?

    1. Five. Last year was really the year of the cruise for our family, though. In 2013 we spent 19 nights (or as my optimistic daughter views it, 22 days) on DCL. I have a warning, they're addictive!

    1. For brunch, I recommend trying the grape Gorgonzola pizza (my DH's pizza of choice) or just pick and choose some delicious morsels from the buffet. I personally love the little pickled onions, the basalmic roasted vegetables and the pastas. DH recommends trying one of each item on the dessert buffet.

  9. I think your marking system is perfect for this Mother's Day experience; I'd award 5 long stemmed roses for ANY Disney Cruise Line adventure. We have only done one- a 3 night cruise on the Disney Magic in 1999. (This mamma's overdue, to say the least!) I wonder, if you could choose Lori, which Disney ship and destination would be your ultimate guilty pleasure? (I'm taking notes for next Mother's Day!)

    1. I'd recommend revisiting the ReImagined Magic! My personal favorite itineraries involve at least three sea days. If I could do any cruise I'd pick the new Norwegian fjord itineraries (available summer 2015) or a back to back of the last of the Mediterranean cruises and a westbound transatlantic cruise. If only the airfare to Europe were more affordable!
