Three Things Thursday ~ So This Is Love

Here's one of my new favorite blog hops today:
Three Things Thursday!

Since I already have a blog (and three blogs preceding this one) what haven't I already shared?

Once Upon a Time There Was a Princess Who...

1.) Met her handsome prince at the tender age of 17.
The week before college started during freshman orientation, I already made a circle of close girlfriends. Janel (who was quite shy) left the cafeteria line ahead of us and went to get a table. Ben saw her sitting all by herself and recognized her as a younger student from his high school. His mother had told him to look out for her, as she and Janel's mother were friends. Seeing her alone, he and his roommate asked if they could sit in the 8 person booth with her. She said yes. Then I and my other two friends showed up and found quiet little Janel talking to two Juniors.
She introduced us all around the table and we all began to hang out.
Ben's roommate nicknamed me "jailbait" on the spot (ah, the perks of being younger than everyone else). Once classes commenced we began to hang out and study in their dorm room. After three and a half years of college, I graduated, married and joined him in Houston.
The rest, as they say, is history!

2.) Loves Texas A&M.
Howdy, y'all! I am a proud member of the fightin' Texas Aggie class of '04.
I stood during every home game my first three years of college.
I attended pretty much every course with men (and women) in uniform.
I stood in the stadium at midnight, yelling along with the entire student body the night before each home game.
I stayed off the grass around the Memorial Student Center.
I watched cadets address Miss Reveille ma'am properly as they were being barked at on the quad.
I avoided words like "elephant" "zip" "shoot" "dying" "reload" unless you wanted to "push."
I left pennies with Sul Ross before exams when I did not feel adequately prepared.
I'm used to cannons and kissing to let me know if we scored a touchdown (I still don't get all the finer nuances, though seeing so many games, I do generally have an understanding of football.)
I still remember half a dozen passbacks and the yells that go with them.
I still bring my 12th man towel to the gym.
I've stood in the pouring freezing rain for hours past midnight to honor the fallen and silently attended Silver Taps.
I've danced at ring dance and stood in the line to get my own ring.
And I got engaged under the century tree in the company of my friends and prince charming.
Gig 'em!

3.) Enjoys redoing "The Love Dare."
I just restarted the other day. (I've done the whole thing before and enjoyed the renewed closeness). If you've seen Fireproof, you know that the main character receives a journal with a series of dares to help save his marriage. The Love Dare is the journal, complete with dares (and devotionals) for forty days. I know (from personal experience) how hard it is to intentionally love my prince charming when there are so many things pulling for my attention.
This reminds me to refocus in a selfless giving way on my most important earthly relationship.
I love it and highly recommend it!

  1. What a great list this week, Lori! I enjoyed learning a bit more about you, as usual. I'm very impressed that you're committing to The Love Dare. I should do that too!

  2. I bought the Love Dare book after watching the movie "Fireproof". I loved the movie and think that it is a great tool to help keep you accountable for reminding your spouse of what they mean to you. It is so hard at times to stay connected as life goes on. It is easy to get comfortable and take each other for granted, especially when you add a kiddo or two. It is for everyone, not just those in rocky times.

  3. What great tidbits about your life! I haven't heard of The Love Dare, but it sounds interesting.

    1. It's super fun and it's a wonderful tool. Check it out sometime. It's maybe five to ten minutes a day.
