FastPass to History ~ Photographic Evidence

Hello FastPass to History Blog Hoppers!
Thank you, again, Frontierland Station for hosting this blog hop.

Did you ever stop and look at the striking photographs on deck five forward? They capture various aspects of the Wonder under construction in the Fincantieri shipyards.

Who did they hire to capture this momentous occasion?
Turns out, nobody.
These photographs mostly came from an amateur photographer with fairly nice camera equipment who basically wandered onto the yard, pretended he belonged and started taking photos. After quite a while, someone finally realized he wasn't a construction worker, imagineer or cast member they asked him to leave the premises.

Black and White images from the shipyards.
First they asked for his film and took down his name. On developing the film, they realized that several of the pictures were not only good, but striking. Calling him back, they asked if they could pay for the film and use it in the décor of the ship.
If you get a chance to cruise on the Wonder, drop by deck five and enjoy!
All history in this lesson attributable to Cally's presentation of The Art of the Theme Show Tour aboard the Disney Wonder January 2014.

  1. That is a great story! I hope they were a little more generous than just paying him for his film. :)

    1. Well they didn't charge him for trespassing. That's got to count for something! I'd imagine they reimbursed him for use of the photos.

  2. Awesome - added this to our list of things to do while we are on the Wonder Alaskan cruise this summer. So cool that they used them on the ship, I bet he was ecstatic. Thanks for sharing!

  3. Those are some great photos! I've always thought it was fascinating to see the ships as they were being built. I'll have to look for these when I go on a Disney Cruise! Thanks for linking up!
