Disney Cruise Line Policy Changes

As with all things Disney, policies for the Disney Cruise Line change over time in an effort to continue to meet the requests and needs of their guests.

Dining Dress Code

Over the last several years, the dress code in the main dining rooms slowly became laxer on "cruise casual" dining evenings. Although their website still requests no blue jeans or shorts, these have become common sights on this family friendly cruise line. As reported on August 10th via the DISboards here, Disney Cruise Line decided to bring the policy in line with cruiser preferences and allow shorts and jeans in the main dining rooms.

Smoking Policy

Yesterday saw announcement of another fairly major policy change.  As of the November 15th sailings, no smoking will be allowed on stateroom verandahs.  As the email states:
August 12, 2013

Reservation #:  ________

Dear __________,

Thank you for booking a Disney Cruise Line vacation.

As you may be aware, our ships are primarily designated as non-smoking ships. However, we recognized that some Guests smoke and strive to make a comfortable and enjoyable environment for all of our Guests.

From time to time, we make adjustments to our operation based on Guest feedback and are making a change to our smoking policy. While Guests have never been permitted to smoke in their staterooms, effective November 15, 2013, Guests will no longer be permitted to smoke on stateroom verandahs. Each ship will continue to offer open-air public spaces designated as smoking areas. Information on designated smoking areas can be found on our website at https://disneycruise.disney.go.com/planning-center/my-cruise-plans/faqs/health-safety/smoking.

Thank you again for sailing with us. We look forward to welcoming you onboard.

Sincerely,

The Cast and Crew
Disney Cruise Line
This policy change will bring Disney Cruise Line's smoking policy in line with other cruise lines including Azamara Club Cruises and Celebrity Cruise Lines. Details of the new policy are found here.

I'm going to also take this moment to congratulate Disney Cruise Line on their fifth consecutive year being the number one ranked cruise line for families in Travel + Leisure magazine annual "World's Best" list.
