Couples Only Cruise ~ A Little Souvenir

Waking up on our last full sea day seemed like a good time to take another run around deck. Even though I'd slept in quite a bit after pirate party, the promenade deck still sat abandoned.

Wow

Which suits me fine, as it makes my average slow running seem more acceptable.

Wow

Sea air has a wonderful way of waking me up, which is good, because running into a head wind is not the easiest thing in the world.

Wow

 Until finally.

Wow

The sun peeked above the clouds and it was time for me to go inside and shower for the day. On my way back down the stairs, I passed one of the Cast Members cleaning out the elevators and caught a glimpse of Mickey clear through the elevator.

Wow

I love this ship.
Anyway, I showered while Ben went for a jog and then we headed out to breakfast.

Since it was a lovely cool morning, we sat outback behind Topsiders and enjoyed the sun rising reflecting off of the Gulf and the peace of the early morning quiet.

After a quiet morning of perambulating about the decks and chilling at the cove café we ended up hanging out in loungers laughing and wondering where everyone could have gotten to. Normally the Quiet Cove is medium full of adults on a sea day, but we had most of the deck to ourselves.

Okay, it was sweatshirt weather, but only just and Ben was comfortable in shirtsleeves. Besides, it was February. I enjoyed catching up on Richard Castle's latest novel on my Kindle for a bit, then we headed over toward Palo to catch one of our favorites, the "Art of the Theme Show Ship Tour." Not to be confused with the "Walking Ship Tour" offered on embarkation afternoon to help orient you to the ship, this is presented as a look into the details and tidbits of the why and how of Imagineering different aspects of the ship from carpets to optical illusions.

Wow

Our host for this tour was a lovely Canadian entertainment cast member and Chris and Casey would be joining us. The group that went on this tour seemed pretty fascinated by the details as were Ben and I. It's interesting to see how each cast member emphasizes different little bits of trivia. The detail from this particular tour I found the most interesting is the story behind Monica blue.

What? Which blue?
The Disney Cruise Line ships are white, red and blue.
Look at the ship again, from a closer angle.

Huh. It IS blue. Who'd have thought.

As I'd mentioned a while ago, supposedly this color, selected in an effort to find a color dark enough to look black but light enough to be breathable, walked right into Imagineering as a pair of pants on a lady named Monica. If you're on the classic ships, some of the porthole seats are the exact same color.

After the tour, Chris, Casey, Ben and I played Giant Jenga (and declared it our new favorite on board pastime after shuffleboard) then completely lost at 90's Music Trivia. Chris is really good, but the questions were really hard and the competition was stiff.

Then it was time for one of my favorite parts of the Disney Magic. It was time for Disney Dreams. I love this stage production. Ben jokes that I cry at this musical before the curtain even rises and he's right too, but no need to tell him that.

"This has all happened before..."

Yes, that's enough to set me crying, but if you'd seen Disney Dreams, you'd know why. You'd also know why I spent a fair amount of time grabbing at Kylee as she leaped off the back of the couch screaming "Faith. Trust. Annnnnnd PIXIE DUST!!!" Yep.

After a lovely show and some last minute browsing for a little souvenir (they still didn't carry any pins specific to the Galveston itineraries), we headed into Parrot Cay for our last meal. Which was hilariously awkward.

Our assistant server astutely had noticed that Casey often felt off or ill mid-meal and ran off and returned and probably that none of us seemed overly surprised or concerned by that happening. Putting two and two together in a way that seemed quite reasonable, especially when seeing Casey delicately folding her hands across her stomach, our server asked quite excitedly if she were pregnant.

Now Casey is on the extremely petite end of things, and no one would mistake her from pregnant by looking at her. She and Chris endure her medical issues (hence excusing herself during meals) with patience and fortitude that are a testimony to the power of grace. So she kindly said no and the poor assistant server got so red in the face and embarrassed and became super apologetic. She left the table with our drinks and we all giggled like middle schoolers for a good long while until Casey sat bolt upright and counted in her head with her head cocked. They already had five adorable daughters, but they weren't planning on any more.

As Ben and I laughed some more over our appetizers, Casey and Chris finally managed that almost impossible on vacation task of figuring out what day it is and then chuckled some more at the assistant server's wrongness.
Then it went back to being funny again.
This post is Part Ten in an Ongoing Trip Report Couples Only Cruise. I'm so thankful for my vacations and I figure reviewing them is half the fun!
I am going to try to get all of my trip reports from 2013 finished up over the next several weeks so be on the look out for scads of updates!
