Did You Know... The Disney Wonder and Disney Magic each have a unique piano bar in the adults only entertainment district? Keys is on the Magic while Cadillac Lounge is on the Wonder. If you absolutely need to keep up with your piano practice while onboard, the piano that used to stay in the Royal suites have sadly been removed, but if  you ask at guest services they can often arrange for a time that you can use a keyboard in one of the lounges when it is not in use. On the Magic, Keys even has a real piano rather than a keyboard. If you're really great at playing piano or would like a live audience, sign up for the talent show! They provide the keyboard for you. If you bring headphones so as to not disturb those watching the game, Diversion...

Did You Know... The Buena Vista Theatre on the Disney cruise ships takes traditional 3D movies and decides to bump them up a notch. Well before the Frozen Sing Along premiered on the main land or was even announced, it tested the waters on DCL. Unlike it's land bound premiere, those lucky cruisers sang along to this 3D spectacular complete with the addition of snow in the theatre. Ready for some 4D! Did You Know... During harbor maneuvers a "harbor pilot" from the port will jump aboard the ship. If you happen to be up before the ship pulls into port, it's pretty interesting to watch a boat (tiny compared to the DCL ships) zip alongside and watch someone step aboard. So is the harbor pilot the one who pilots the ship into port? The DCL crew leaving port after a day in Cozumel. The harbor pilot, despite the name is mostly advisory. After informing the captain of any tides or other information that will assist with docking, he mostly stays on in an observatory capacity while the captain and his crew pull the ship into port.

The Disney Dream which travels at a leisurely 22 knots while in service, can best that speed by quite a bit. Full Speed Ahead! Traveling faster than an adult tigger tiger in a charge, the Dream maxes out around 24.7 knots (also known as 28.4 miles to us landlubbers.)

Michael Eisner and other Disney executives originally believed that "simply seeing animals would not be exciting enough for guests." The imagineers disagreed and to prove the point, Joe Rohde brought a 400 pound tiger into a meeting with the top brass (or at least Wikipedia says so.) I've never brought this good of a visual aid to a presentation. My own photo, Houston Zoo. Animal Kingdom received the go ahead. Would you want to be in a meeting with a 400 pound tiger? Did You Know... Animal Kingdom has the most signs of any Disney Park. Over 12,000 signs point out the locations of everything from restaurants to rides to restrooms on the 500 acre property. The Disney Magic and Disney Wonder blow that number out of the water (if you'll pardon the pun.) Mickey explains how to safely adjust a life vest. Each of the classic ships boasts well over 20,000 pieces of signage (Most of it safety related or maps.) My favorite is the "Watch Your Head" sign that appears between each floor in the stairwells. Did You Know... When cruising in open waters, the Disney Wonder is under standing orders to remain at least a mile from all other ships. In the words of Captain Fabian, "The seas are huge, why would you have to be so close?" No worries about tail gating, I guess!

Did You Know... Even before the Disney Magic was reimagined, the Magic and Wonder as sister ships each enjoyed very different personalities. Aside from the obvious differences in décor (Art Nouveau vs. Art Deco) and further upgrade differences (Outlook Café) and theming of the adults areas, even some parts which seem as though they should match don't if you start looking very carefully. Case in point? They don't even have matching hidden Mickeys!  Just outside Treasure Ketch taken seven months apart. On the Wonder, no hidden Mickey. On the Magic, there is, if you look very closely! If you just don't feel like eating at the crack of dawn breakfast (6:45 AM breakfast anybody?) assigned to the main dining rotation on disembarkation morning, you don't have to starve? I highly recommend taking the last opportunity to say goodbye to your serving team, but sometimes the hectic nature of preparing for debarkation doesn't make that easy or smooth. Or maybe one of your children managed to somehow sleep in until a reasonable hour and your assigned breakfast. (They only assign breakfast times the last morning.) The Disney Magic weighs  in at over 90 million pounds with eleven passenger decks each longer than three football fields but is maintained by a cast and crew of less than a thousand?  The yellow jumpsuit means project Main Street is underway! In order to maintain the ships, they run a maintenance program similar to Walt Disney World. Sometimes referred to as "Project Main Street" the DCL fleet undergoes constant painting, scraping and cleaning to keep up that "new ship" experience for each week's guests. I think it's one of those Disney differences that keeps us coming back.

The same forced perspective that Disney Imagineers use to make Cinderella Castle appear larger is used on the Disney Cruise Line Ships? Forced perspective is the use of optical illusions to make items appear larger or smaller than they actually are by use of visual relation to other objects, foreshortening and angles. Most commonly forced perspective is used in photography, movies and architecture. In Walt Disney World Main Street USA uses two well known, but very effective architectural effects. The foreshortening of the second and third third story of the buildings to create the illusion of vertical distance and height. All of the food for the entire length of a Disney Cruise is loaded during it's time in it's home port (usually Port Canaveral.) Basically all the groceries for each of the  2,700-passenger on the Disney Magic must be brought on board during an eight hour window once a week. That window is at the same time as every stateroom checks out, all linens, quarters and common areas become picture perfect and all the next guests for the next cruise check in and are welcomed aboard. How much food is it anyway? The Disney Magic serves up 3,125 gallons of complimentary soda, 10,000 pounds of chicken, and 71,500 eggs for an average seven night voyage. Did you know that the Disney Magic features over 20,000 pieces of signage? Low ceiling warning? Check. While the vast majority of signage in any part of the ship is for safety (emergency directions, precautions, etc.) it also eases your navigation around the ship. You won't be needing to pull out a map as ship directories are (nearly) everywhere!  Park Ship Map, check! Just to put this amount of signage in perspective, Disney's Animal Kingdom (the individual largest Disney Park in the world) covers 580 acres of land using 12,000 signs. The Disney Magic and Wonder each feature 20,000.

Did you know that while the Disney Magic was built in two section in the Fincantieri shipyards of Venice, Italy, the Disney Wonder's construction took place in one location? Due to the two part construction, the Magic features a seam on the outer hull, visible on deck four just forward of Assembly Station I. No worries if your stateroom is on the seam, as many cast members state that this seam is actually the strongest most reinforced segment of the ship.  Starboard birthmark on the Magic. If you happen to be on the Wonder, however you still will notice a seam in approximately the same location. According to the Art of the Theme Show Tour , the imagineers were so invested in keeping the ships identical during the initial construction, that the Disney Wonder received a "tattoo" of sorts. Did you know that although Cinderella Castle cannot be taken apart during a hurricane? Despite the recurring urban legend, this Magic Kingdom landmark sits tight during hurricanes and rides out the storm in it's usual location. Actually, Cinderella Castle was built to withstand hurricane force winds above 110 miles per hour, Myth only. It would take weeks to disassemble and a huge crane. The interior of the castle is composed of steel and concrete while the exterior is coated in a fiberglass reinforced gypsum plaster. In other words, it isn't going anywhere.

On to the trivia!   The odds of becoming a lightning victim in the U.S. in any one year is 1 in 700,000. T he odds of being struck in your lifetime is 1 in 3,000. Odds of dying (in the event you are struck by lightning) reduce to 1 in 10. What are the odds of making it onto the Disney Parks Moms Panel in any given year? Almost all adult guests are eligible to apply for the following year's panel (some restrictions apply). A published average 47,000 Magic Kingdom park guests daily , (source here ).  This doesn't include the guests visiting Epcot, Disney's Animal Kingdom, Disney's Hollywood Studios, Disneyland or Disney California Adventure.
