The Royal Treatment ~ R is for Rain Delay

To catch up on previous installments of "The Royal Treatment" surf over to the "Adventures" tab.

As Diana, Kylee, Ben and I took our seats in Studio Sea, we noticed that it seemed a little abandoned. The lights shone, the televisions played "Sofia the First" and the cast members continued to drill outside the portholes. Several other families join us in sitting around chatting as the younger members of our party indulge in some cartoons.

The Royal Treatment
Apparently this is comfortable.
Finally, just before charades scheduled start time an entertainment cast member comes sliding into the room. She says "Wonderful! So are you all here for the tour?"
Um...no?
She asks what activity we were expecting.
Disney Charades.
She pulls out a schedule, says "Just a moment, please!" and scampers off.
A minute or two later a second cast member comes in and asks us if we are familiar with the rules of charades. He runs through the rules (standard charades, but any character or movie from Disney) then asks who would like to go first. Kylee volunteers us.
Then drags me to the front of the room. Put on the spot (literally under a spotlight), I tell Kylee to come here. Then I hoist her skyward toward the light source and strike my most Rafiki-esque pose. Thankfully Ben guessed "The Lion King" before my shoulders gave out.
A minute later another guy raised his hand and went up and gave his best Goofy impersonation. The cartoons switched over to Doc McStuffins and that distracted K for a bit. But not for long. Soon she dragged grandma up to the stage to impersonate Wall-E and Eve. Then Kylee dragged Daddy up. Then Kylee volunteered Ben and I. (We reenacted Cinderella in the most melodramatic way possible. Throwing of shoes may have been involved, but as no photos exist, I guess you'll never know.)
:)
Bare bones as this activity was, we enjoyed it.

The Royal Treatment
Not the eyes!
Kylee wanted to go swim again, so we doubled back up to the room, applied a liberal coating of sunscreen and headed up to deck nine. (Diana opted to stay in the suite). Kylee loved a second round of swimming and splashing in the relatively empty pool. Port days are usually a good time to enjoy a relatively abandoned pool deck.

I helped myself to some fries and a veggie burger from Pluto's then resumed watching Kylee Mickey Slide while Ben went in search of some more adult fare over at Goofy's Galley. Finally, Kylee decided she could go for a bite to eat and after changing into dry clothes, headed into the Oceaneer Club.

Ben and Diana and I headed down to deck four, intending to kill some time before Cruisin' for Trivia began at 2. Ben suggested we head into Diversions for a little while. So we played chess and the game ended up much closer than normal. The second round we kind of threw out the rules and played snap judgement chess (just move! no thinking) that game ended up much closer, due in part to a spectacular misapplication of the rules.
I very nearly almost could have won!

Mom contemplates whether the window seat is as safe as she had considered.
We swapped to a game a bit more in my wheel house, Giant Jenga.

Come on Ben...
I eventually, inevitably won.

Round Two.
Which is good because we were running out of space under the lamp. Around now Ben asked when trivia was supposed to start. I said 2:00.  He said, where are they then. (He had thought that Trivia would be in Diversions.) So we hustled down to the Promenade Lounge halfway through the game. The hose graciously said we could answer the questions that were left and try to answer the questions we had missed as they reviewed them before going over the answers.
Under such pressing time constraints, we won!
Wow.
We decided to hang around afterwards for Pirate Trivia.
After all manner of piratical sayings and history, we emerged victorious.
Twice in a row.
For our troubles we received very nice Disney Cruise Line journals.

Glenn dropped by to let us know to expect an earlier Pirate Party than traditionally that evening as the Captain would be trying to avoid some weather and hopefully still get to enjoy the fireworks.
Since we'd kept a weather eye open during Giant Jenga, we were not surprised to head back to our suite and discover a veritable shower beginning to whip the water to a frenzy as people started to approach the ship.

Ponchos flapping in the wind.
At the scheduled all aboard, hundreds of people still remained at the checkpoint. The captain decided to wait, and moreover sent boxes of ponchos out to those who would walk the pier in the full force of the wind. The captain announced that we would be undergoing a slight rain delay. We watched the waved increase as we readied ourselves for a lovely afternoon and early evening.

Spot the wave breaking over the walls.
Before the pirate party, we had a few more things to attend to...like the concierge reception!

  1. Kylee sure liked volunteering everyone for charades! Sometimes I think those less "produced" activities leave the strongest memories. Just having fun and laughing together as a family. That is awesome you won both trivia games. Who doesn't love free Disney stuff?

    1. Kylee did LOVE it.
I think it just appeals to the whole pretend and make believe mindset she is in now. She still is in that wearing princess dresses to grocery shop age. I just wish I could get away with that.
